Gorham, Maine – Junior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine) and freshman Michaela Demers (Manchester, N.H.) each scored a goal to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 2-0 win over the Framingham State University Rams in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday at Hannaford Field.

With the win, the Huskies halt a two-game losing streak and improve to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the Little East. Falling in its second straight game, Framingham State is now 8-7 overall and 2-6 in the Little East.

Ariel Kaplan (South Berwick, Maine) fed Dostie for her team-leading 16th goal of the season in the second minute of the game.  The assist was Kaplan's second of the season.  The Huskies outshot the Rams 10-5 in the opening half, but could only manage a one goal lead through the first half as Framingham State freshman goalkeeper Sarah Palace (Auburn, Mass.) was up to the task making seven saves in the first frame.

The Rams did have a solid opportunity to pull even with the Huskies early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty stroke at the 4:08 mark.  FSU sophomore Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) put a good shot onto net, but Husky senior Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) dove to her left to make the stop.

The score remained 1-0 through the opening 13 minutes of the second half, before Demers scored her second goal of the season to give the Huskies some breathing room.  Demers cleaned up a loose ball in front cage after several Husky shots and Ram saves.

Kennedy earned the win making four saves in 61:23. Senior Lindsey Fortin (Berwick, Maine) entered the game for the final 8:37 and did not face a shot.  Senior Cristina Mountain (Dexter, Maine) made a pair of defensive saves for the Huskies to help the effort.  Palace made 18 saves in the loss as the Huskies held a 24-6 advantage in shots.  USM also held a 13-6 edge in penalty corners.

Southern Maine returns to action on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.) when it hosts Worcester State in a Little East Conference game.  Framingham State hosts Plymouth State on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) in an LEC game.
