Field Hockey Falls 4-1 at Western Connecticut

Danbury, Conn. – The Western Connecticut State University Field Hockey team scored two goals in the first seven minutes of play, and added two more goals in the second half to capture its first Little East Conference victory of the season with a 4-1 win over Framingham State University Tuesday evening at the Westside Athletic Complex.

Western got the scoring started early when senior Shelly Davies (Newtown, CT) pounced on a rebound and punched the ball past the Framingham State keeper for a 1-0 Colonial lead.  Three minutes later, sophomore Caitlin Ogrizovich (New Fairfield, CT) took a pass from senior Kim Gigante (Bedford Hills, NY) and extended the Western lead to 2-0.  The Colonials finished the first half with a 6-1 advantage in shots, and a 2-0 lead on the scoreboard.

Freshman Tatum Seaver (North Haven, CT) gave Western a little breathing room in the fifth minute of the second half when she collected a pass from sophomore Heidi Odenwaelder (Goshen, CT) and banged home a shot for a 3-0 lead.  At the 52:26 mark, Davies scored her second goal of the game and the Colonial lead was 4-0.

Framingham State finally got on the scoreboard with 14 minutes remaining in the second half when senior Kaitlyn Ranieri (Bellingham, MA) scored off a pass from junior Hannah Wilkins (Merrimac, MA), making Western's final margin 4-1.

For the game, Framingham State held a 14-12 advantage in shots and had an 8-5 edge in penalty corners.  With the win, Western improves to 4-5 on the season and 1-3 in the Little East Conference.  Framingham State falls to 5-4 overall and 0-4 in the conference. 

The Colonials return to action on Saturday, October 5th, when they travel to play Little East Conference rival Keene State at 6:30 p.m., while the Rams host Becker College in a non-conference titl on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
