Field Hockey Tallies Late Goal to Defeat Lasell 2-1

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University field hockey team scored late in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and secure a 2-1 victory this afternoon over Lasell College in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.     

With the win the Rams snap a two game losing streak and improve to 10-7 on the year, while the Lasers close their regular season at 5-13 after the loss.

Framingham State took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.  Senior Kaitlyn Ranieri (Bellingham, Mass.) fired a shot into the circle that junior Cassandra Koegel (Groveland, Mass.) redirected into the cage for her fourth of the season.

The Lasers tied the score in the opening minutes of the second half.  Freshman Cristina Wilson (Wilmington, Mass.) controlled a loose ball in the circle and knocked a shot home evening the score with 30:10 left in the game.

The Rams, who were playing a player up for 10 minutes down the stretch,  retook the lead for good with just over six minute remaining in the game.  Senior Cali Tetreault (New Bedford, Mass.) had possession at the top of the circle and fed a pass to Ranieri in front of the net.  Ranieri laid a shot past the keeper inside the far post for the 2-1 advantage.

The Rams outshot the Lasers 18-6 in the game and held a 12-3 edge in corners.  Senior Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) recorded her 10th victory of the season in the cage making three saves.  Freshman Cassie Aviles (Bellingham, Mass.) started in goal for the Lasers and made three saves in a half of work before giving way to classmate Taylor Sheehan (Brewster, Mass.) who made 10 saves in her half of work.

The Rams close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon with a Little East game at Keene State at 1:30 p.m.
