Field Hockey Records 4th Shutout of the Season with 4-0 Win Over Wheelock

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University field hockey team recorded their fourth shutout victory of the season with a 4-0 win this afternoon over Wheelock College in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.     

With the win, the Rams improve to 5-1 on the year, while the Wildcats are still in search of their first victory at 0-5.

Junior goalie Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) turned away the four shots that the Wildcats sent on goal on the afternoon to record her 4th shutout of the season in the cage. 

The Rams took the lead for good in the 22nd minute of action as freshman Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) sent a pass to sophomore Hannah Wilkins (Merrimac, Mass.) and Wilkins buried one in the back of the cage for her first of the season.

With just over a minute remaining in the first half, the Rams extended their lead to 2-0 as sophomore Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit junior Kaitlyn Ranieri (Bellingham, Mass.) with a pass and Ranieri tallied her team leading 5th goal of the season.

The Rams would add a pair of goals in the second half to reach the final margin of 4-0.  In the 43rd minute junior defender Kelli Timmins (Dedham, Mass.) found the back of the cage unassisted for her second of the year.  Freshman Janelle Curtis (Hudson, Mass.) finished the scoring in the 68th minute as she scored her first collegiate goal off Urbaniak's second assist in the contest.

Junior goalkeeper Michelle Greene (Mansfield, Mass.) picked up the loss for the Wildcats making 11 saves and freshman midfielder Elizabeth Cooper (Mansfield, Mass.) recorded a defensive save for the visitors.

The Rams outshot the Wildcats 17-5 in the game and held an 11-6 edge in penalty corners.

The Rams resume league play on Saturday on the road at Eastern Connecticut at 12 p.m., while the Wildcats host Western New England on October 4th at 7 p.m.
