Field Hockey Defeats Daniel Webster 3-0

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University field hockey team used three second half goals to pick up their third 3-0 shutout victory of the season as they defeated Daniel Webster College this afternoon in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.     

With the win, the Rams remain unbeaten on the year at 3-0, while the Eagles fall to 0-2.

The Rams outshot the Eagles 10-0 in the first half and had 10 penalty conrers but were not able to find the back of the net.  Daniel Webster goalie Danielle Melanson (Derry, N.H.) made five saves in the half including a pair of big stops on corners.

The game would remain scoreless until midway through the second when the Rams were finally able to convert on one of their 25 penalty corners in the game.  With 15:33 left in the game, junior Cassandra Koegel (Groveland, Mass.) inserted the ball to senior Cali Tetreault (New Bedford, Mass.) at the top of the circle.  Tetreault laid the ball of to junior Kaitlyn Ranieri (Bellingham, Mass.) who fired a shot into the back of the cage.

The Rams doubled their lead with a second goal with just under six minutes remaining when sophomore Emma Littlefield (Rockport, Mass.) took a restart and carried the ball just inside the circle.  Littlefield blasted a shot at the cage for her first tally of the season.

Junior defender Kelli Timmins (Dedham, Mass.) connected on her first of the season three minutes later off an assist from Littlefield to reach the final margin of 3-0.

Melanson finished the game with 12 saves for the Eagles, while senior Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) picked up her third shutout of the season without making a save.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host UMass Dartmouth at 11 a.m., while the Eagles host Mercy on Monday at 4 p.m.
