Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University field hockey team opened Little East Conference (LEC) action this afternoon with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Worcester State University Lancers at Maple Street Field.

Framingham State improves to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the LEC after their second consecutive shutout to start the year, while the Lancers are now 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference.

The Rams took the lead early when they converted their first penalty corner of the game.  Junior Cassandra Koegel (Groveland, Mass.) inserted the ball to senior Cali Tetreault (New Bedford, Mass.) at the top of the circle.  Tetreault laid the ball off to junior Kaitlyn Ranieri (Bellingham, Mass) and Ranieri dropped it right back to Tetreault who blasted a shot into the back of the cage.

Framingham State extended their lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals two minutes apart late in the half.  The first came with 7:50 left when sophomore Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, Mass.) sent a shot into the circle and freshman Alina Willing (Natick, Mass.) deflected it into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.  The Rams converted a corner at 6:13 with Urbaniak scoring off a Ranieri assist to push the lead to 3-0.

The Rams outshot the Lancers 11-4 in the contest and senior goalie Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) picked up her second shutout victory making three stops, while her Lancer counterpart Rebecca Mullen (Peabody, Mass.) made four stops in a losing effort.

Both teams return to action on Thursday with the Rams hosting Daniel Webster at 4 p.m. and the Lancers hosting Anna Maria at 7 p.m.
