Field Hockey Defeated 3-1 by Plymouth State
Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University field hockey team surrendered two second half goals as they were defeated 3-1 by Plymouth State University in Little East Conference action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 8-1 in the conference and 13-1 overall, while the Rams fall to 4-11 overall and 1-8 in the LEC.
Plymouth State had a chance to strike first with just over 20 minutes remaining in the half when they sent multiple shots on net. The first was turned away by FSU goalie Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) and the second was stopped on a defensive save from Kelli Timmins (Dedham, Mass.). However, the Panthers were eventually awarded a penalty stroke, but Aisha Rai Thompson's (Berlin, NH) stroke was off target and sailed wide of the cage.
Framingham State was able to capitalize and take the game's first lead just four minutes later when Kelly German (Sandwich, Mass.) had possession in the circle took a shot that was redirected into the back of the cage by sophomore Sarah Giansanti (Flanders, NJ).
The Rams would maintain the one goal advantage until late in the half when Plymouth was able to tie the score on a goal from Lauren Carroll (Rollinsford, NH) with 4:35 on the clock.
The game would go to the half tied, but the Panthers would take the lead for good just 1:16 into the second half. Senior Christina Parisi (Hampton, NH) sent a cross to Olivia Colborn (Lancaster, NH) in the circle and Colborn slipped a shot past Ryan for her 10th goal of the season.
The Panthers added an insurance goal six minutes later when sophomore Jackie Morin (Scarborough, ME) took a loose ball in the circle and scored unassisted to reach the final margin of 3-1.
Ryan finished the game with 14 saves in net for the Rams, while Hilary Lemelin (Milan, NH) made three saves for the Panthers.
The Panthers outshot the Rams 25-7 in the game and held an 11-5 edge in penalty corners.
The Rams return to action tomorrow when they host Salem State at 3:30 p.m., while the Panthers entertain Bridgewater State on Saturday at noon.
