Gorham, Maine  - Senior midfielder Bethany Bougie (Sanford, Maine) had a goal and two assists to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 3-1 win over the Framingham State University Rams in a Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

With the win, Southern Maine stops a four-game slide and improves its overall record to 7-9 and its Little East Conference record to 4-4.  The loss drops the Rams' to 4-10 overall and 1-7 in the LEC.

Despite scoring a goal just three minutes into the game and outshooting the Rams 7-1 in the opening half, Southern Maine found itself tied with the Rams 1-1.  Husky freshman Amethyst Hersom (Biddeford, Maine) scored the first goal of her collegiate career just 3:08 into the game after redirecting a pass from Bougie to stake USM a 1-0 lead.  The Rams battled back to even the score on a picture perfect play off of a penalty corner in the 28th minute.  After slotting the ball on a corner, sophomore midfielder Cassandra Koegel (Groveland, Mass.) stepped into the circle in front of the cage and deftly redirected a pass from junior back Cali Tetreault (New Bedford, Mass.).

The score remained knotted up at one goal each through the first ten minutes of the second half, before senior back Joanna Gaube (Woodstock, Conn.) knocked in her first goal of the season in the 46th minute.  Gaube was on the receiving end of a well-played pass from Bougie to give the Huskies a 2-1 advantage. Bougie added the Huskies' insurance goal in the 61st minute when she rocketed in a long shot from near the top of the circle for the 3-1 final.

Southern Maine sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Kennedy (Windham, Maine) made three saves in the win.  Ram junior goalkeeper Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) played well in the loss making seven saves.  Junior back Kelly German (Sandwich, Mass.) made a defensive save for the Rams.  

USM finished game with a 15-6 advantage in shots and a 12-4 advantage on penalty corners.

Southern Maine hosts Worcester State on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) in a Little East Conference game.  Framingham State hosts Plymouth State University on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).
