Field Hockey Defeats Becker 4-1

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University field hockey team snapped a four game skid with a 4-1 win this afternoon over Becker College in a non-conference matchup at Maple Street Field. 

With the win, the Rams are now 4-9 on the season, while the loss drops the Hawks to an identical 4-9 mark.

The Rams wasted no time taking control of the game as sophomore Demi Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) scored her team leading fifth goal of the season just under five minutes into the contest.  Miskiv scored off of a feed from junior Kelly German (Sandwich, Mass.) on a penalty corner.

Framingham State doubled their lead in the closing minutes of the first half as Miskiv fed classmate Cassandra Koegel (Groveland, Mass.) and Koegel found the back of the cage for her first of the game.

The game would remain 2-0 in favor of the Rams until late in the second half when Becker cut into their lead. With just over 15 minutes remaining, senior Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, Conn.) beat the FSU goalkeeper on a penalty stroke.

That was as close as the Hawks would get as the Rams added a pair of insurance goals in the final three minutes.  Sophomore Elizabeth Morrison (Taunton, Mass.) scored off a German feed on a penalty corner with 2:31 on the clock and Koegel added her second of the game off a Miskiv assist, also on a corner, with no time left on the clock.

Miskiv finished the game with a goal and a pair of assists, while Koegel added a pair of goals and German picked up two helpers in the contest.

Junior Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) picked up the win in the cage making 10 saves, while Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, NJ) made five stops for the Hawks.

The Rams held a 17-13 advantage in shots in the game and a 14-9 edge in penalty corners which the Rams were able to turn into three goals.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Southern Maine at noon, while the Hawks host Regis on Friday night at 7 p.m.
