Fitchburg State Defeats Field Hockey 4-0

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University field hockey team used three first half goals to propel them to a 4-0 victory today over the Framingham State Rams in Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey action at Maple Street Field. 

With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-4 on the year and 3-2 and in the Little East, while the Rams fall to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Senior forward Megan Jacobs (Stoughton, Mass.) tallied two goals for the Falcons, while junior forward Jamie Kelley (Pepperell, Mass.) picked up a goal and an assist.

Jacobs scored the game winner on a penalty corner off a feed from Kelley just over 14 minutes into the game and less than four minutes later she added her second of the game – an unassisted goal - to push the lead to 2-0.  Senior midfielder Mari Roma (Foxborough, Mass.) extended the Falcons lead to 3-0 in the 25th minute when she blasted a shot into the back of the cage from the top of the circle.

Kelley added her goal in the 60th minute off an assist from sophomore Rebecca Bush (Littleton, Mass.) to reach the final margin of 4-0.

The Falcons outshot the Rams 22-7 in the game and held a 10-8 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior Taylor Begin (Haverhill, Mass.) made four saves en route to the win in the cage for the Falcons, while junior Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) made 10 stops for the Rams in a losing effort.

Both teams resume Little East action on Tuesday with the Rams traveling to Bridgewater State at 7 p.m. and the Falcons hosting Westfield State at 7 p.m.
