Field Hockey Defeats Eastern Connecticut 1-0

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University field hockey team picked up their first Little East Conference (LEC) victory of the season this afternoon with a hard fought 1-0 win over Eastern Connecticut during FSU's Homecoming and Family Weekend at Maple Street Field.

The Rams improve to 3-5 on the season and 1-2 in the conference with the victory, while the loss drops the Warriors to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the Little East.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Warriors hold a slim 6-5 advantage in shots, the Rams broke the scoreless tie with 14:59 remaining in the game.  Sophomore forward Demi Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) found the back of the cage for an unassisted goal – her team leading fourth of the season.

The Warriors had chances to tie the score in the second half, but Framingham State goalkeeper Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) turned away everything the Warriors sent her way.  Ryan finished the game with eight saves as she picked up her second shutout win of the year.

Eastern Connecticut goalie Danielle Reichardt (Ocean Township, NJ) was equally impressive making six saves and allowing only the one goal.

The Warriors held an 11-10 advantage in shots for the game including an 8-7 edge in shots on net, while the Rams took seven penalty corners, all in the second half, to the Warriors three.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Western Connecticut at 7 p.m., while the Warriors host Fitchburg State on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
