Miskiv Scores Twice as Field Hockey Falls at UMass Dartmouth

North Dartmouth, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team defeated visiting Framingham State, 4-2, in a Little East Conference match at Cressy Field Friday evening.

The Rams put the first point on the scoreboard at the 23:08 mark of the first half. Framingham State sophomore Demi Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) gathered a loose ball in front of the Corsair net and fired home her first goal of the day, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later, UMD answered back when sophomore Kayla Ribsam (Lambertville, NJ) found an open junior Jenna Miedzionoski (Beverly, Mass.), who finished with a shot past Rams junior goalkeeper Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.), evening the score at 1-1.

Miskiv put the Rams back on top with a goal, her second of the game, off a pass from sophomore Cassandra Koegel (Groveland, Mass.) with 16:08 left in the first half.

Again, the Corsairs quickly battled back and pulled even when sophomore Devon Herlihy (Stratham, NH) scored off a pass from junior Taryn Cardiel (Moorpark, CA), making the score 2-2 going into halftime.

UMass Dartmouth had multiple opportunities to grab a lead in the second half, including going 0-for-5 on five consecutive corner attempts. They finally broke through when Cardiel worked a give-and-go with Ribsam off a corner attempt, and Cardiel rocketed a shot past Ryan, giving UMD their first lead of the game, a 3-2 advantage with 18:25 remaining in the second half.

Junior Eleanor Taylor (Fairhaven, Mass.) sealed the game for UMD, working a give-and-go with freshman Anna Bohenberger (Falmouth, Mass.) and sneaking a shot into the back of the Rams goal, locking up the 4-2 victory for UMass Dartmouth.

UMass Dartmouth out shot Framingham State, 20-5 in the game. Sophomore Kelsey Gallo (East Greenwich, RI) stopped three shots for UMD, while Ryan made eight saves for Framingham State.

The Corsairs improved to 3-2 and 2-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while the Rams dropped to 1-4 and 0-2 in the LEC with the defeat.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Tufts next Wednesday evening. Framingham will visit Gordon next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
