Field Hockey Falls in Overtime 3-2 to the University of New England

Framingham, Mass. – Senior forward Bree Tupper (Winthrop, ME) scored just over two minutes into overtime to lift the University of New England Nor'Easters to a 3-2 victory on the road today over the Framingham State University Rams in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.  With the loss the Rams even their record at 1-1 on the young season, while UNE remains unbeaten at 4-0.

The Nor'Easters, who outshot the Rams 14-4 in the first half, took a 1-0 lead with just under 16 minutes remaining in the frame.  Junior Emily Koehler (Pelham, N.H.) took a corner and sent a pass to Laura Egounis (Boscawen, N.H.) at the top of the circle.  Egounis fired a shot into the back of the net for the game's first goal.

UNE had several chanced to extend their lead but Framingham State goalie Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) made several key stops including a spectacular save on senior Michelle Oswald's (Jay, ME) breakaway with eight minutes remaining.

Ryan kept the Rams within one goal allowing the Rams to tie the score in the half's closing minute as sophomore Kaitlyn Ranieri (Bellingham, Mass.) and junior Cali Tetreault (New Bedford, Mass.) connected for a goal on a penalty corner. Ranieri sent a pass to Tetreault who sent the ball immediately back to Ranieri who found the back of the cage for the game tying score.

The game would remain tied at 1-1 till late in the second half as the Nor'Easters held a decisive 9-3 advantage in second half shots but Ryan once again was tuning everything away until late. With just under 12 minutes remaining, sophomore Hayley LaPointe (Topsham, ME) corralled a rebound in front of the net and scored giving the Nor'Easters a 2-1 advantage.

The Rams would once again tie the score as Tetreault picked up her second assist of the game.  This time she hit sophomore Katie Devoe (Fairhaven, Mass.) with a long cross and Devoe redirected the ball past the Nor'Easter keeper.

In overtime, the Nor'Easters continued their offensive pressure and fired a series of shots on the cage. Ryan was able to stop the initial offering but Tupper was able to control the rebound and score the decisive goal.
