Field Hockey Ends Season with 2-0 Loss at Salem

Salem, Mass. – Salem State University goaltender Senior Jessica McKenna (Rowley, MA) stopped six shots in the Vikings 2-0 victory over Little East Conference foe Framingham State University Rams at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.

McKenna posted the 12th shut out of her career and has a career total of 363 saves.  The win clinches a playoff spot for the Vikings.

McKenna's six save shutout effort resulted in her eighth win of the season.   Salem State finishes the regular season at 8-8 and 5-6 in the LEC.   Allesha Kenyon (Westford, MA) stopped four of six shots for Framingham State and is marked for her 11th loss of the season.  The Rams finish their season at 5-12 overall and 3-8 in the conference.

The Vikings offensive pressure kept the Rams defense pinned in its own end.  Salem State took seven shots, four on goal, to the Rams four total shots—all of which reached the goaltender.   Kaitlyn Aronian (Chelmsford, MA) led the Vikings in the first half with five shots, two of which were on goal.  Aronian's best opportunity in the half came when Kristin Santanello (Swampscott, MA) connected to Aronian on a blind pass in front of the Framingham goal.  However, the shot rolled just wide of the post.

In the second half Krisitn Santanello (Swampscott, MA) broke the scoreless tie at 60:59 after being fed a pass by Philbrick on a penalty corner.  The Vikings followed up with an insurance goal on their next corner attempt when Megan Closson (Boothbay Harbor, ME) connected with April Rossetti (Saugus, MA) scored at 65:55.
