Field Hockey Downed by Lasell College 3-1

Framingham, Mass.  — Senior midfielder Tia Pratt (Oxford Hills, ME) scored a goal and picked up two assists to lead the Lasell College field hockey team to a 3-1 win over Framingham State University in a non-conference field hockey game this afternoon at Maple Street Field.  With the win, the Lasers finish their regular season at 8-10, while the Rams are now 5-11 on the year with one game remaining.

The game started slowly with most of the action centered around the midfield area as both teams combined for only two shots over the first 25 minutes of play.

Lasell was able to find their offensive rhythm late in the first half as they had several quality scoring chances.  With just over ten minutes remaining in the half, Pratt carried the ball into the circle drawing FSU goalie Allesha Kenyon (Westford, Mass.) off her line to challenge.  Pratt was able to drop the ball off to junior Hannah Cebry (Burlington, CT) who redirected the ball into the empty cage giving the Lasers a 1-0 lead at 24:40.

The Lasers maintained the 1-0 advantage until the Rams offense came alive part way through the second half.  With just over 23 minutes remaining in the game, the Rams were awarded a penalty corner and fired a flurry of shots on the net.  Lasell goalie Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.) kept turning shots away and picked up three saves on the corner to preserve the 1-0 lead.

FSU's offense kept the ball in the circle and the Rams were awarded a penalty stroke at 21:19.  Senior defender Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) found the back of the cage on her stroke to knot the game at 1-1.

The game remained tied until the closing minutes when Lasell scored two goals just over a minute apart to seal the victory.  With 3:39 remaining, Pratt once again hit Cebry with a cross in the circle and Cebry finished for her second of the game giving the Lasers a 2-1 lead.  Just over a minute later, Pratt dribbled through the Ram defense and scored an unassisted insurance goal at 67:29 to reach the final margin of 3-1.

Thornton finished the game with six saves for the Lasers, while Kenyon finished with eight in a losing effort for the Rams.  The Lasers held a slight 16-12 advantage in shots for the game and also held a 9-6 advantage in corners.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they conclude the regular season at Little East foe Salem State at noon.
