Westfield, Mass. – Junior forward Jessi Gould (Canton, Mass.) scored three goals to power Westfield State University to a 4-2 conference field hockey victory over Framingham State University on Friday evening, Oct. 15.
Westfield is 5-8 overall and 2-5 in the conference; Framingham falls to 4-9 and 2-6.
It was the third hat trick this season for Gould, who leads the Owls with 33 points (14 goals, 5 assists). She nearly scored a fourth goal with just over 24 minutes remaining in the game but her blast glanced off the inside of the left post.
Gould gave Westfield an early 1-0 lead 2:41 into the game with an unassisted goal following a penalty corner. Framingham tied the scored less than three minutes later on a goal by freshman Elizabeth Morrison (Taunton, Mass.), who was assisted by senior Kristen Sacco (Mendon, Mass.).
Gould scored the game winner in traffic in front of the net 2:28 into the second half after receiving a nice pass from freshman Sarah Pliszka (Enfield, CT). Gould added an unassisted goal with 30:04 remaining in the game for a 3-1 Westfield lead.
The Owls took a commanding 4-1 lead in the 57th minute on sophomore Liz Hall's (Southwick) goal off a rebound of a missed shot.
Sacco closed out the scoring with 1:53 remaining.
Westfield outshot Framingham, 13-4, as Owl goalie Amanda McCarthy had no saves. Ram goalie Allesha Keny(Westford, Mass.) an recorded six saves.
