Field Hockey Defeats Western Connecticut 1-0

Framingham, Mass.  — Senior goalie Allesha Kenyon (Westford, Mass.) made 14 saves to propel the Framingham State University field hockey team to a 1-0 Little East Conference (LEC) victory at home today over Western Connecticut State University.  With the win, the Rams snap a three game losing streak and improve to 4-6 on the year and 2-4 in conference.  The loss drops the Colonials to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the Little East.

After a scoreless first half, the Colonials offense came out firing in the second as they outshot the Rams 12-4 in the period.  The Colonials earned six corners in the second half and had several chances to score on the opportunities, but Kenyon was outstanding in the cage turning away everything sent her way.

The Rams were finally able to generate some offense late in the second half and capitalized on one of their four second half corners.  Senior Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took a pass on a corner and fired a shot at the goal that was knocked away by Western Connecticut goalie Heather Stone (Valhalla, N.Y.).  Junior Kristin Gentili (Franklin, Mass.) was there to knock the rebound back in the circle to freshman forward Cassandra Koegel (Groveland, Mass.) who tapped it home for the game winner at 53:23.

Stone finished the game with four saves for the Colonials.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they resume LEC play at Eastern Connecticut State University at 4 p.m.
