Field Hockey Shutout at Plymouth State

Field Hockey Shutout at Plymouth State

Plymouth, N.H. – Freshman Annabelle Frenette (Old Orchard Beach, Maine.) scored two goals Wednesday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University to a 4-0 victory over Framingham State University in a Little East Conference field hockey match-up at Arold Field.

The Panthers controlled the game from wire to wire, outshooting the visitors, 27-0.  Junior Erin Norris (Hilton, N.Y.) and freshman Natalie Harkins (Windham, Maine) also tallied their first goals of the season as PSU improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.  Framingham State dropped its second in a row and fell to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the Little East.

Norris scored the only goal PSU would need 16 minutes into the first half, redirecting a crossing pass on the left side from senior Kristina Conroy (Wakefield, Mass.)  That stood as the only goal in the first half despite the Panthers having a 9-1 margin in shots.

Frenette scored her first of the game a minute into the second half, collecting a loose ball after a blocked PSU shot and knocking it into the back of the net.  PSU continued to put pressure on the Framingham net, but senior goalie Allesha Kenyon (Westford, Mass.) did all she could to keep the Rams in the game. Kenyon finished with 16 total saves, including 10 in the second half.

The Panthers pulled away with two goals in the final 10 minutes.  Frenette scored her second of the game and fifth of the season on a rebound with nine minutes to play, and Harkins finished off a scramble in front with two minutes remaining.

Plymouth State is home again on Saturday, hosting Eastern Connecticut State University in a Little East game (1 p.m.)  Framingham State is back on the road on Saturday, visiting Fitchburg State for a 10 a.m. conference clash.
