Field Hockey Falls to Keene State 3-1

Keene, N.H.  – Led by junior forward Elizabeth Coffin's (Sugar Hill, N.H.) two goals in the games first seven minutes, the Keene State College Owls defeated Framingham State 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Owl Athletic Complex. With the victory the Owls improve to 5-1 and 2-0 in Little East play, while Framingham drops to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference action.

The win avenges last year's 2-0 setback to the Rams.

Coffin's first goal happened less than two minutes into the game, when junior forward Jacki Benson (Hampstead, N.H.) crossed the ball into the middle of the circle finding a wide open Coffin to beat Ram goaltender Allesha Kenyon (Westford, Mass.) to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

At the 6:17 mark, Coffin netted her second goal as freshman defender Katlyn Simula (Bridgewater, N.H.) sent the ball into the circle off an out of bounds play, bouncing over Framingham defenders sticks to find Coffin open on the far post and give KSC a 2-0 advantage.

Thirty-six seconds later, Framingham answered back with a goal from Cassandra Koegel (Groveland, Mass.) off a rebound to beat KSC senior goalie Meghan Ledoux (Standish, Maine) to cut the lead in half to 2-1.

In the second-half, KSC was awarded a penalty stroke, at the 39:59 mark for an illegal touch by a Framingham defender. Coffin, looking for the hat trick was denied, on a nice pad save by Kenyon to keep the Rams in the game.

But with less than twenty minutes remaining, the Owls put the game out of reach when junior midfielder Alyce Ferenc (Rumney, N.H.) took a pass from senior Leigh Smith (Sanborton, N.H.) to give KSC the 3-1 Little East Conference victory.

Ledoux made one save for the Owls in the victory, while Kenyon, the reigning Little East and ECAC goaltender of the week made ten saves and allowed three goals in the losing effort.

The Owls outshot the Rams 25-4 on the game and held a slight advantage in penalty corners with seven to Framingham's five.

The Owls return to action Monday, with a road game against Castleton State College at 7 p.m. Framingham plays next on Tuesday, with a home match against Gordon at 4 p.m.
