Field Hockey Breaks Into Win Column with 1-0 Shutout Victory Over USM

Framingham, Mass.  —Senior goalie Allesha Kenyon (Westford, Mass.) made fourteen saves to propel the Framingham State University field hockey team to a 1-0 Little East Conference (LEC) victory today over the University of Southern Maine at Maple Street Field. The win was the Rams first of the season as they improve to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the LEC.  The loss drops the Huskies to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference.

The Huskies outshot the Rams 18-10 in the game but Kenyon was the difference as she turned away all fourteen shots that the Huskies fired on net.  Kenyon made several diving stops in the game to pick up her first shutout win of the season.

Senior forward Kristen Sacco (Mendon, Mass.) scored the game's only goal with 31:28 remaining in the second half as she collected a rebound off her own miss and then maneuvered around the USM goalie for her first goal of the season.

USM's best chance to tie the game came with just under six minutes to play in the contest as junior Bethany Bougie (Sanford, ME) sent the ball across the front of the cage, but the pass was just wide and Ariel Kaplan (South Berwick, ME) was unable to get a good shot on net.

Freshman Kayla Kennedy (Windham, ME) made seven saves for the Huskies and picked up the loss.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they host Salve Regina University at 4 p.m., while the Huskies travel to UMaine Farmington also on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
