Field Hockey Sets New School Record For Wins with 3-1 Win Over Westfield 3-1

Box Score

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State College field hockey team picked up a 3-1 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over the Westfield State College Owls at home today on Maple Street Field.  With the win, the Rams raise their record to 11-2 overall and 7-1 in conference.  The Rams 11 wins sets a new single season field hockey mark as they surpass the 2004 and 2008 squads who each won ten games.  The Owls fall to 6-9 on the season and 2-6 in conference with the lost.

Junior forward Kristen Sacco (Mendon, Mass.) scored the game winner just 4:02 into the game as she took a pass from senior forward Kali Barrett (North Attleboro, Mass.) and connected for her team leading 16th goal of the season.  Neither team generated much offense for the remainder of the half, but the Rams were able to add an insurance goal just before the half.  Senior midfielder Katie Wotherspoon (Stafford, Conn.) found Sacco in the circle and Sacco connected for her second of the day giving the Rams a 2-0 lead at 31:49.

With her two goals today, Sacco now has 17 goals on the season and is one shy of the Framingham State single season goal record which was set by former Ram Jennifer Johnson in 2004.  Coming into the game, Sacco and Barrett were one-two on the FSC field hockey all-time points list and after today's game Sacco has pulled ahead with 96 points in her career and Barrett is second with 92 points.

The Rams would extend their lead to 3-0 just after half time as freshman forward Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, NY) scored her sixth of the season off an assist from junior Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

Westfield State would cut the Rams lead back to two goals in 51st minute as Framingham State goalie Allesha Kenyon (Westford, Mass.) covered the ball in the circle and the Owls were awarded a penalty stroke.  Sophomore Nicole Gagnon (Andover, Mass.) beat Kenyon with a high shot on the penalty stroke for the Owls only goal on the day.

Kenyon picked up her 11th win of the season in the cage as she made six saves in the game, while Westfield State goalie Amanda McCarthy (Franklin, Mass.) made nine saves in a losing effort

The Rams return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Bridgewater State at 4 p.m., while the Owls travel to Fitchburg State on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
