Field Hockey Cruises to 9-0 Win Over Anna Maria

Framingham, Mass. - Behind three goals from junior forward Kristen Sacco (Mendon, Mass.), the Framingham State College field hockey team cruised to a 9-0 win today over Anna Maria College in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.  With the win, the Rams improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Amcats are still in search of their first win at 0-4.

Sacco scored the game winner just 3:27 into the contest as sophomore Katie Barry (Fairhaven, Mass.) sent a cross into the circle that Sacco deflected into the goal for her first of the game.  The Rams extended their lead to two goals just eight minutes later as senior midfielder Katie Wotherspoon (Stafford, Conn.) corralled a loose ball in the circle and fired a shot for her second goal of the season.

The Rams, who outshot the Amcats 34-2 on the day, extended their lead to 3-0 with just under eight minutes remaining in the half as senior forward Kali Barrett (North Attleboro, Mass.) collected a rebound in the box and tipped it past the Amcat goalie for her first of two goals on the day.

Framingham State would add six goals in the second half to reach the final margin of 9-0.  Barrett added her second of the day in the 38th minute.  Barry scored her first of two goals in the 39th minute and Wotherspoon added her second in the 47th minute.  Sacco would add two more goals and Barry added a single goal to finish the scoring for the Rams in the final twenty minutes of play.

Anna Maria College goalie Allyssa Boykin (Worcester, Mass.) faced 34 shots on the day and made 21 saves, while Allesha Kenyon (Westford, Mass.) and Steph Bourgeois (Waltham, Mass.) made two saves combined to pick up the shut out win.

Barry finished the game with two goals and two assists for the Rams, while sophomores Kayleigh Force (Leominster, Mass.) and Kristin Gentili (Franklin, Mass.) and freshman Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) chipped in with single assists.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they host Keene State at 2 p.m., while the Amcats travel to Western New England on Saturday at 1 p.m.
