Late Goal Lifts Field Hockey Past Southern Maine 3-2

Box Score

Gorham, Maine   -- Freshman forward Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) knocked in a loose ball off of a scramble late in regulation to lead the Framingham State College Rams to a 3-2 Little East Conference field hockey win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Saturday afternoon at Paula D. Hodgdon Field in Gorham, Maine.

With the win, the Rams start their Little East Conference season with a 1-0 mark and improve to 2-1 overall.  The loss halts a two-game win streak for Southern Maine that dips to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the LEC.

Fisher batted in the goal after corralling a deflection off of a save in the 68th minute to deliver the win for the Rams.  Framingham State led the Huskies 2-1 for a majority of the second half, before Southern Maine senior forward Caitlin Albert (Scarborough, Maine) swatted in a deflected ball out of the air in the 63rd minute for the 2-2 tie.

Southern Maine jumped out to the early 1-0 lead following freshman forward Kailey Bubier's (Auburn, Maine) fourth goal of the season.  Bubier tapped in a goal in the 10th minute off of an assist from sophomore forward Heidi Swett (Turner, Maine).  Ram junior forward Kristin Sacco (Mendon, Mass.) knotted the score in the 14th minute with an unassisted goal for the 1-1 tie that stood through the half.

In the second half, senior forward Kali Barrett (North Attleboro, Mass.) put Framingham State up in the 40th minute with an unassisted goal before Albert's game-tying goal.

USM senior goalkeeper Allison Hill (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) made seven saves in the loss.  Ram junior goalkeeper Allesha Kenyon (Westford, Mass.) made nine saves, including six in the second half, to earn the win.

Southern Maine returns to action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at home against UMaine Farmington, while Framingham State hosts Anna Maria on Thursday at 4 p.m.
