Field Hockey Downs Western Connecticut, 6-3

Framingham, MA - Forwards Kali Barrett (North Attleboro, MA) and Kristen Sacco (Mendon, MA) scored two goals apiece as the Framingham State College field hockey team defeated Western Connecticut 6-3 at Maple Street Field this afternoon.  With the win, the Rams improve to 5-3 on the season and 2-3 in the Little East Conference (LEC), while the Colonials fall to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in LEC action.

After being shut out in their last two games, the Framingham State offense wasted no time getting in the scoring column as junior midfielder Jade Franzen (Mansfield, MA) scored off a feed on a penalty corner from freshman Kristin Gentili (Franklin, MA) just 1:19 into the game.  The Colonials would tie the score two minutes later as freshman Jenn Tracy (Burlington, CT) scored off a pass from Melissa Berardi (Brookfield, CT).

The Rams would take the lead back in the 5th minute of play as Sacco netted her first of the day, but the lead was short lived once again as the Colonials answered with a goal of their own.  On a penalty corner in the 12th minute junior Meredith Stuart (Washington, CT) took a pass at the top of the circle and fired a shot into the back of the goal to tie the score at 2-2.

The Rams offense would erupt for four more goals to open up a 6-2 lead.  Freshman Kayleigh Force (Leominster, MA) scored on a penalty stroke in the 24th minute to put the Rams on top for good.  Barrett would score goals in the 32nd and 39th minutes and Sacco would add her second in the 47th minute off a pass from senior Cailyn Morgan (Gardner, MA).  The Colonials would cut the lead to 6-3 in the 53rd minute on Stuart's second goal of the day off a penalty corner, but that was as close as they would get.  Sophomore goalie Allesha Kenyon (Westford, MA) made nine saves and picked up her fourth win of the season.

The Rams return to action on Thursday as they travel to Simmons at 7 p.m., while the Colonials travel to UMass Dartmouth at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
