Field Hockey Knocks Off Southern Maine for First LEC Win of Season

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College field hockey team opened up Little East Conference (LEC) play at home today on Maple Street Field with a 3-1 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies.  With the win, the Rams remain unbeaten this season at 3-0, while the Huskies fall to 1-2.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead just 24 seconds into the game as sophomore forward Kristen Sacco (Mendon, MA) maneuvered thru the Huskies defense and scored her fifth goal of the season.  The Rams lead was short lived as Southern Maine freshman Brianna Beisaw (Jay, ME) fed a perfect pass to junior Caitlin Albert (Gorham, ME) who tied the game at 1-1 in the 4th minute.

Framingham State would retake the lead for good in the opening minutes of the second half as Sacco crossed the ball into the circle and junior Kali Barrett (N. Attleboro, MA) scored her third goal of the season to put the Rams up 2-1.  Sacco, the 2007 LEC Rookie of the Year, would add an insurance goal in the 64th minute to put the Rams up 3-1.

The Rams held a decided advantage in shots for the game as they took 27 shots to the Huskies 13.  It was the outstanding play of the Huskies goalie junior Allison Hill (Cape Elizabeth, ME) that kept them in the game as she made 18 saves on the day.  Framingham State goalie Steph Bourgeois (Waltham, MA) picked up her first win of the season and made seven saves on the day.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they travel to Keene State at 1:30, while the Huskies travel to UMaine Farmington on Wednesday at 4:00.
