Field Hockey Opens Season with 7-1 Win Over Anna Maria

Framingham, MA - Behind two goals apiece from freshman Katie Barry (Fairhaven, MA), sophomore Kristen Sacco (Mendon, MA) and junior Kali Barrett (North Attleboro, MA), the Framingham State College field hockey team opened the 2008 season at Maple Street Field today with a 7-1 non-conference win over the visiting Amcats of Anna Maria College. 

The Rams controlled the first half of play as they outshot the Amcats 16-2.  They were able to break into the scoring column in the 13th minute as Barry scored her first collegiate goal unassisted.   The Rams would extend their lead in the 27th minute as Barrett took a pass from senior Cailyn Morgan (Gardner, MA) and scored her first goal of the season.  Barry would add her second goal in the 34th minute off a pass from Barrett to give the Rams a 3-0 lead at the half.  The Amcats goalie Alyssa Boykin (Worcester, MA), who finished the game with 15 saves, made 11 stops in the first half to keep the Amcats in the game.

The Rams extended the lead to 5-0 in the 38th and 40th minutes on two goals by Sacco, the 2007 Little East Conference Rookie of the Year.  Anna Maria broke into the scoring column in the 40th minute as junior forward Angela Guiffrida (Leicester, MA) drove thru the Rams defense and placed a shot past the Rams goalie.  Barrett would add her second of the day and forward Lisa Connors (Stoughton, MA) would add her first collegiate goal late in the game to finish the Rams scoring.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they host Husson College at 4:15 pm.
