Westfield State Rallies to Defeat Field Hockey

Framingham, MA- The Westfield State College field hockey team scored three goals in the final twelve minutes of play to defeat the Framingham State College field hockey team 3-1 at Maple Street Field this afternoon.  With the win, the Owls improve to 7-7 on the season and 3-5 in Little East Conference (LEC) play, while the Rams slide to 6-6 and 3-5 in LEC action.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of play as sophomore Kali Barrett (N. Attleboro, MA) sent the ball into the circle and freshman Kristen Sacco (Menden, MA) knocked it home for her team leading eleventh goal of the season.

The Rams would hold the slim lead until the 59th minute of play when Owl senior forward Megan Wolski (Plymouth, MA) took a pass from Kara Guittarr (Dedham, MA) and knocked it past the Rams keeper to tie the game at 1-1.  Westfield State's offense, which took 27 shots on the day to the Rams nine, kept up their pressure and Guitarr took a cross from Alicia Gardner (Athol, MA) and able to find the back of the net in the 63rd minute for what proved to be the game winner.  Guitarr would add her second goal of the day unassisted in the 69th minute to finish the scoring.

Rams goalie Steph Bourgeois (Waltham, MA) was outstanding and made 18 saves despite picking up the loss, while Owls net minder Cat Hanks (Somers, CT) made four saves.
