Football Sails Past Mass. Maritime 28-13

Buzzards Bay, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team received three touchdown passes from junior Adam Wojenski (Stratford, Conn.) as the Rams defeated Massachusetts Maritime Academy 28-13 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Clean Harbors Stadium.

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After a turnover on the first drive of the game, the Rams wasted little time getting on the board on their second possession of the game.  Wojenski completed a 44 yard pass to senior Napoleon Miller (Boston, Mass.) and followed that up with a 22 yard touchdown strike to senior Quron Wright (Worcester, Mass.) for the 7-0 lead.
  • The Buccaneers on the ensuing possession had a three and out and were forced to punt.  George Lampros sent a punt down to the Rams 10 yard line that was fumbled.  Jeff Wheeler recovered the fumble in the end zone for a touchdown, but the point after was blocked and the Bucs trailed 7-6. 
  • The Rams got on the board again with just under five minutes remaining in the second quarter on a 10 yard touchdown pass from Wojenski to senior Mike Calicchio (Chelmsford, Mass.).
  • .Wojenski and Miller connected for a six yard touchdown pass with just over nine minutes remaining in the third to extend the Rams lead to 21-6.
  • Mass. Maritime received a 32 yard touchdown run from Benjamin Sheehan and the extra point from Lampos to cut the deficit to 21-13 with 6:52 remaining in the third.
  • The Rams added a final score on a 13 yard run from Wojenski  reach the final margin.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Wojenski complete 22 of 33 pass attempts for 336 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions, while also rushing for a score.
  • Calicchio caught five balls for 101 yards with a touchdown, while Miller finished with seven catches for 66 yards and a score.
  • Ty Ebdon completed 12 of 36 passes for the Bucs for 148 yards with no picks, while also rushing for 45 yards.
  • Sheehan finished the game with 41 yards rushing and a touchdown.
  • Defensively, the Rams were led by 12 tackles including eight solo and 2.5 for a loss from senior Eli Etienne (Moorestown, NJ), while classmate Kenneth Bartolo and junior Joshua Smiley (Springfield, Mass.) added seven apice.
  • The Rams amassed 427 yards of total offense in the game including 336 yards passing.  The Bucs had just 266 yards of offense with118 coming on the ground.
  • The Rams have won 11 straight over Mass. Maritime with the Bucs last defeating the Rams during the 2007 season.

The Rams are off next Saturday as they have their bye week, but are back in action at home on October 6th when they host Fitchburg State University at 12 p.m.
