Harris Receives Week 6 NEFW/Grinold Chapter Gold Helmet Award

Framingham, Mass. – Senior defensive back Jaquan Harris (Boston, Mass.) has been awarded the New England Football Writers Division II/III Gold Helmet Award for week six of the 2017 football season. This week's winner for Division I (FBS/FCS) was Dartmouth quarterback Jack Heneghan.

Harris was earlier recognized this week as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Defensive Player of the Week after his record tying performance against Fitchburg State on Friday night and was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.

Harris recorded five interceptions in the victory over Fitchburg State tying the NCAA Division III single game record.  Harris now shares the single game record with 11 other players including the most recent, James Patrick from Stillman, who achieved the feat in 2002.

Harris, who established a new FSU single game interception record, now has eight interceptions on the year, tying the FSU mark for picks in a season.  His first pick against the Falcons was returned 19 yards setting up the Rams first touchdown of the game.

Harris is the third player from the MASCAC selected for the Division II/III Gold Helmet Award this season.  Western Connecticut quarterback Quinn Fleeting received the award after week one, and Massachusetts Maritime Academy running back Richie Phillips received the award after week three.

The Gold Helmet Awards are presented each Wednesday afternoon at the weekly New England Football Writers Association Media Luncheons that take place at Harvard University's Dillon Field House.  For the third straight year, the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation is the presenting sponsor for both the weekly and end-of-the year Gold Helmet Awards presented to student-athletes from FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III institutions throughout New England.
