Silva to be honored by New England Football Writers with Season Gold Helmet Award

Framingham, Mass. – Framingham State University senior quarterback Matt Silva (Dracut, Mass.) was named the 2015 Division II/III Season Gold Helmet Award winner by the New England Football Writers.  Silva will be honored along with the other award recipients at the NEFW's annual Captains and Awards Dinner on December 10th.

Silva is the second Ram to be honored by the New England Football Writers with the season Gold Helmet Award as defensive lineman James Muirhead received the award in 2012.

Silva will be recognized twice at the NEFW's Awards Dinner as he was previously selected to the Division II/III All-New England Team.  Silva continues to add to the hardware that he has received this year as he was recognized as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Offensive Player of the Year and a first team all-conference selection.  He ranked among the nation's and conference's leaders in most passing categories throughout the year.  Silva completed 264-of-411 passes for 3,168 yards with a school record 41 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. 

Silva, who currently holds 12 FSU passing records, established new school records for touchdowns in a game (6), touchdowns in a season (41), yards passing in a game (510) and season (3,168) during his senior campaign. Silva received a pair of New England Football Writer's Gold Helmet Awards and he was selected as the recipient of the 2015 Joseph P. Zabilski Award, which is presented annually by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston to the top offensive and defensive player in Division II and III.
