Silva Receives Week Nine NEFW Gold Helmet Award

Cambridge, Mass. – Senior quarterback Matt Silva (Dracut, Mass.) has been awarded the New England Football Writer's Gold Helmet Award, sponsored by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, for week nine of the 2015 college football season.  Silva was selected the Division II/III winner for the second time this season, while running back Arkeel Newsome of Connecticut was the Division I recipient.

Silva led the Rams to a 54-25 victory over Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday after completing 29-of-43 pass attempts for 383 yards with a school record six touchdown passes in just three quarters of action. Silva completed touchdown passes of 30 yards, nine yards, 27 yards, 14 yards, six yards and 12 yards to establish the new school record. For his efforts, Silva earned his third MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week nod this season as he surpasses the old mark of five touchdown passes in a game which was held by four players, including Silva who had achieved the feat five times.

The Gold Helmet is the fourth of Silva's career as he previously won the award after week two of the current season, after the final week of the 2014 season and in the opening week of his rookie campaign in 2011.
