Football Cruises Past Plymouth State, 38-0

Plymouth, N.H. – Quarterback Matt Silva (Dracut, Mass.) completed 32 of 42 passes for 410 yards and four touchdowns Saturday afternoon to lead Framingham State University to a 38-0 victory over Plymouth State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match-up at Currier Field.

Silva connected with junior Travis Hayes (Framingham, Mass.) on TD strikes of 43 and 21 yards before the game was five minutes old to put the visitors ahead 14-0. It was 17-0 after one quarter following a 25-yard field goal by junior Sean Wlasuk (Peabody, Mass.). Silva and Hayes connected again in the second quarter, this one from 32 yards out to extend the Rams lead to 24-0 at the half.

The Rams sealed the win with two unanswered scores in the third quarter.  Sophomore Jalen Green (Brockton, Mass.) scored on a one yard run and Silva tossed his fourth TD pass to Marcus Grant (Carver, Mass.) for 35 yards.

Framingham State, ranked third in this week's New England Division III poll, went on to its fifth win in a row to improve to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the MASCAC, while PSU falls to 1-6 overall and 0-5 against conference opponents.

Hayes finished the game with six catches for 115 yards. Grant was Silva's top receiver, finishing with 12 receptions for 168 yards and a touchdown.

PSU had a chance to get on the scoreboard in the second quarter after putting together a nine-play drive but a 42-yard field goal attempt by senior Rob Giles (Derry, N.H.) was wide left.

Senior Kevin Donahue (Norfolk, Mass.) led the Framingham State defense with seven tackles, while sophomore Kyle Soja (Chicopee, Mass.) made six tackles, including a sack.  The Rams defense limited PSU to 152 total yards.

Senior Kyle Wilson (Dover, N.H.) topped the Panther defense with seven tackles, a forced fumble and two passes batted down. Junior Sam Bellamy (Keyport, N.J.) and freshman Blair Zentek (Simsbury, Conn.) made six tackles each, with Bellamy forcing a fumble and Zentek recovering one.

Framingham State plays another MASCAC road game next Saturday at Massachusetts Maritime Academy (12 noon) while PSU visits Worcester State Saturday for a MASCAC affair (1:30 p.m.).
