Torti Receives New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Award

Cambridge, Mass. – Brown senior quarterback Patrick Donnelly and Framingham State junior defensive end Alex Torti (Hopkinton, Mass.) were named the final 2012 recipients of the New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Awards.

Brown's fourth-year signal caller orchestrated a fourth-quarter comeback against Dartmouth, rallying the Bears from down 10 to a 28-24 victory to guarantee a winning season in Providence.  Donnelly connected with classmate Jonah Fay for an 18-yard touchdown with just 1:14 remaining on the clock to cap the rally after rushing for a three-yard touchdown just over five minutes earlier to get Brown within three. The Longmeadow, Mass. native finished the day 20-of-32 for 233 yards with two passing touchdowns and two rushing scores. 

Torti helped guide the Rams past Salve Regina, 28-16, and claim the school's first New England Football Conference Championship. The Marian product made three tackles, including two for loss, recovered two fumbles, returning one for a touchdown for the Rams in the final NEFC Championship game. His first fumble recovery came at the Rams' four-yard line at the start of the fourth quarter to keep the Seahawks off the board and maintain Framingham State's 11 point lead, while his second takeaway of the game locked up the victory, as he returned it 20 yards for a touchdown with 3:21 left on the clock to make the score 28-10.
