McCarthy & Pappagallo Named ECAC Division III North Football All-Stars

Framingham, Mass. — Framingham State University junior wide receiver James McCarthy (Newton, Mass.) and senior safety Anthony Pappagallo (Malden, Mass.) have been named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2010 Division III North Football All-Stars as announced this morning by the ECAC.  McCarthy and Pappagallo are among 11 players from the New England Football Conference (NEFC) honored as ECAC North All-Stars.

Pappagallo continues to rack up awards this season as he was previously named the NEFC Bogan Division Co-Defensive Player of the Year, a first team All-Division selection as well as a Division II/III All-New England selection by the New England Football Writers Association.  He led the Rams defense which ranked first in the Bogan Division in total defense allowing only 271 yards per game and first in the division in rushing defense. Pappagallo racked up 71 tackles including 48 solo stops on the year to along with two interceptions and five pass break ups.

McCarthy has previously been honored as the winner of the Joseph P. Zabilisky Award which is awarded by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston, a New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England selection, a D3football.com 2010 All-East Region first team selection, a first team NEFC All-Bogan Division selection.  McCarthy rewrote the Rams record book in 2010 as he became the first FSU wide receiver to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in a season making 62 catches for 1,100 yards and 22 touchdowns.  Despite missing the first two games of the year due to injury, he led the nation in scoring and the NEFC in receptions per game, receiving yards per game, touchdowns, scoring and scoring TDs.  McCarthy broke seven FSU offensive records including touchdown receptions in a game and season, points in a game and season, touchdowns in a game and season, and receiving yards in a season. 

As a team the Rams enjoyed much success in 2010 compiling a school best 9-2 record and earning their first appearance in an ECAC Bowl game in which they defeated Norwich University.
