McCarthy & Leone Named to D3football.com 2010 All-East Region Teams

Framingham, Mass. — Framingham State University junior wide receiver James McCarthy (Newton, Mass.) has been named to the D3football.com 2010 All-East Region First Team Offense and quarterback Kurt Leone (Marshfield, Mass.) has been named to the Third Team Offense as announced this morning by d3football.com.  D3football.com has been honoring an All-East Region Teams for six years and McCarthy and Leone are the first Rams to receive the honor.  As a team the Rams enjoyed much success in 2010 compiling a school best 9-2 record and earning their first appearance in an ECAC Bowl game in which they defeated Norwich University.

McCarthy continues to rack up honors this season as he has previously been a New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England selection, a first team New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Bogan Division selection.  McCarthy rewrote the Rams record book in 2010 as he became the first FSU wide receiver to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in a season making 62 catches for 1,100 yards and 22 touchdowns.  Despite missing the first two games of the year due to injury, he led the nation in scoring and the NEFC in receptions per game, receiving yards per game, touchdowns and scoring.  McCarthy has broken seven FSU offensive records including touchdown receptions in a game and season, points in a game and season, touchdowns in a game and season, and receiving yards in a season.

Leone earns All-East Region honors and NEFC All-Division honors in his first season with the Rams as he led the NEFC in passing yards per game, total offense and passing efficiency.  Leone completed 229 of 348 passes (65.8%) for 2,978 yards and 33 touchdowns with only seven interceptions.  He averaged 270.7 passing yards per game as he broke the NEFC single season touchdown pass record and the Framingham State single season touchdown pass mark, while establishing a new FSU single season passing yardage record.  Leone tied the FSU single game touchdown record of five which he did three times this season and tied the school record for completions in a season. Leone also rushed for 104 yards and two scores on the year.
