Nine Rams Earn NEFC All-Division Honors – Pappagallo, Van Alstyne and Kelley Earn Major Awards

Framingham, Mass.  — Nine Framingham State University football players have been named to the 2010 All-Division Team, head coach Tom Kelley has been selected the 2010 New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division Coach of the Year, senior safety Anthony Pappagallo (Malden, Mass.) the Bogan Division Co-Defensive Player of the year and freshman running back Melikke Van Alstyne (Salem, Mass.) the Bogan Division Offensive Rookie of the Year in voting conducted by the division's coaches and announced this morning by the conference office.

Pappagallo, senior linebacker Joe Treacy (Wakefield, Mass.), junior left tackle Dan Fox (Tyngsboro, Mass.), junior wide receiver James McCarthy (Newton, Mass.) and senior quarter back Kurt Leone (Marshfield, Mass.) earn first team honors, while senior linebacker Adam Emery (Dorchester, Mass.), sophomore defensive tackle James Muirhead (Middleboro, Mass.), center Bobby Donoghue (Wilmington, Mass.), and senior wide receiver Shawn Miller (Tyngsboro, Mass.) have been named second team All-Division.

Kelley earns his first Coach of the Year honors as he guided the Rams to a school best 8-2 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the Bogan Division.  The Rams finished the regular season in a tie with Maine Maritime atop the Bogan Division standings and captured the 2010 MASCAC Regular Season Championship as they went 5-0 against MASCAC opponents.

Pappagallo, a second team all-division selection in 2009, led the Rams defense which ranked first in the division in total defense, rushing defense, and first in the NEFC in passing defense.  Papagallo racked up 62 tackles including 45 solo stops on the season to go along with two interceptions and five pass breakups.  Treacy, who earns all-division honors for the first time, became the Rams career tackle leader this season as he made 56 stops on the season.  Muirhead and Emery earn second team honors for the first time in their careers. Despite missing the final two games in 2010 with an injury, Muirhead set a new Rams single  season sack record with six.  Emery set a new Rams career mark for tackles for a loss with 29 in his career after making 12.5 stops for a loss in 2010.

The Rams high powered offense, which shattered the FSU single season points record, led the conference in passing offense and was second in total offense, was led by Van Alstyne and the five all-division selections on the offensive side of the ball.  Fox and Donoghue anchored the Rams offensive line whose solid play led to the Rams having one of their best offensive seasons to date.

Van Alstyne, who is the Rams first Offensive Rookie of the Year selection under Coach Kelley, became the just the second Rams running back to rush for over 1,000 yards in as season as he rushed for 1,019 yards on 197 carries with five touchdowns during his rookie season.

McCarthy, who is leading the nation in scoring, became the first FSU wide receiver to go over 1,000 receiving yards in a single season as he broke six school records during the 2010 season.   McCarthy missed two games this season but still led the NEFC in receptions per game, receive yards per game, touchdowns and scoring as he made 57 catches for 1,017 yards with 21 touchdowns.  He averaged 127.1 receiving yards per game which is also among the national leaders. 

Leone earns All-Division honors in his first season with the Rams as he led the NEFC in passing yards per game, total offense and passing efficiency.  Leone completed 207 of 310 passes (66.8%) for 2,704 yards and 31 touchdowns with only five interceptions.  He averaged 270.4 passing yards per game as he tied the NEFC single season touchdown pass record and broke the Framingham State single season touchdown pass mark.  He established a new single season passing yardage record.  Leone tied the FSU single game to uchdown record of five which he did three times this season and tied the school record for completions in a season. Leone also rushed for 104 yards and two scores on the year.

Miller was a versatile player for the Rams in 2010 as he earned his first all-division honors.  He made 47 catches on the year for 491 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for 204 yards on 48 carries with a touchdown.
