Weaver Selected Bogan Division Defeinsive Rookie of the Year - Five Rams Named to NEFC All-Division Teams

Framingham, Mass. - Freshman defensive back Carlito Weaver (Brockton, Mass.) was selected the 2009 New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division Defensive Rookie of the Year and the Rams placed five players on the NEFC All-Bogan Division Teams in voting conducted by the division's eight head coaches as announced today by the conference. 

Senior return specialist Anthony Kewley (Rutland, Mass.) was the Rams lone first team selection, while juniors Anthony Pappagallo (Malden, Mass.), Brent Loveless (Billerica, Mass.), Corey Steele (Andover, Mass.) and Dave Leach (Chelmsford, Mass.) were all second team selections.

In 2009 the Rams went 5-5 and matched their record from last season and it is the first time the Rams finished .500 or better in back-to-back season since the 1978 and 1979 seasons.

Weaver, who missed the final three games of the season due to injury, is the first Ram under Coach Kelley to earn defensive Rookie of the Year honors.  Prior to his injury, he was leading the Rams in tackles and finished the season with 40 tackles including 28 solo stops, and six pass break ups.

Kewley, who earns all-division honors for the first time in his career, led the NEFC in punt returns averaging 16.7 yards per return.  He returned two punts for touchdowns including an 82-yard return in the Rams win over Mass. Maritime.  Kewley was also among the conference leaders in kickoff returns averaging 19.8 yards per run back.

Leach, who picked up second team running back honors for the second straight season, once again rushed for over 1,000 yards this season and became the Framingham State All-Time leading rusher.  Leach rushed for over 100 yards in seven games and finished the year with 1,373 on 275 carries, both of which are new single season records.

Pappagallo, Loveless and Steele were second team honorees on the defensive side of the ball.  Pappagallo moved from linebacker to safety this season and was second on the team with 65 tackles including 39 solo stops.  He was second on the team in passes defended with ten to go along with two interceptions, a forced fumble and a blocked kick.  Loveless finished the season among the conference leaders in tackles and passes defended.  He picked up 47 tackles on the season and a team-high 15 pass break ups with one interception.  Steele, a defensive end, receives all-division honors for the first time in his career.  He racked up 35 tackles on the season including 5.5 tackles for a loss and one sack.
