Football Blanked by Maine Maritime

Framingham, MA - Junior running back Jim Bower (South Paris, ME) rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns and junior quarterback Tyler Angell (Leeds, ME) rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown as the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners defeated the Framingham State Rams 51-0 at Maple Street Field today.

The Mariners amassed 582 yards of total offense on the day, 503 of those yards and 7 of their 8 touchdowns were on the ground, while the Rams offense totaled 305 yards and committed six turnovers which led to five Mariner touchdowns. 

The Mariners, who scored touchdowns on their first three possessions, intercepted the Rams Bruce Rich (Chelmsford, MA) on the opening series of the game and drove 42 yards in four plays for the go ahead score on a 28 yard touchdown strike from Angell to sophomore running back Todd Murphy (Middlesex, VT).  On the Mariners next possession Murphy, who finished the day with 91 yards on three carries, broke thru the Rams secondary for a 28 yard touchdown. Freshman running back Nick Bourassa (Jay, ME), who finished the game with 74 yards rushing, scored on a 27 yard touchdown run on the Mariners third possession of the day. 

Freshman quarterback Matthew Rende rushed for 44 yards on four carries and scored on touchdown runs of  four and 33 yards late in the game.

Rams junior tailback Dave Leach (Chelmsford, MA), who was held under 100 yards for the first time this season, rushed for 93 yards on 24 carries and in the process set a new single season rushing record for Framingham State.  He now has 997 rushing yards on the season and is on the verge of becoming the first Framingham State running back to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.

The Rams return to action next Saturday as they travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a 2 p.m. kickoff, while the Mariners host Coast Guard at 12 p.m.
