Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Fitchburg State to Earn Share of MASCAC Regular Season Title

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team took game one by a score of 8-4 before falling 14-5 in game two this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Bowditch Field. With the split the Rams earn a share of the 2024 MASCAC Regular Season Title. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 8, Fitchburg State 4 
Fitchburg State 14, Framingham State 5 

- Records: Framingham State (16-18, 14-7 MASCAC), Fitchburg State (13-25, 8-13 MASCAC) 

- Location: Bowditch Field Framingham, Mass.   

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

The Rams finished the regular season 14-7 in league play and sit tied atop MASCAC standings with Salem State and Bridgewater State who also finished the regular season 14-7. 

Game 1: Framingham 8, Fitchburg 4 

  • The Falcons took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the top of the first and third. 

  • The Rams took the lead with five in the bottom of the third. Shane Costello and Lucas Basile plated runs with singles and Matthew Hart scored on the back end of double steal. Ryan Boyle added an RBI double and Robert Johnston chipped in with a sacrifice fly. 

  • The Falcons closed the gap to 5-4 in the top of the sixth, but the Rams tallied three in the bottom of the inning. Daniel Robichaud plated a run with a single to left and Hart plated a pair with a double to deep left. 

  • Joshua Sunderland earned the victory on the mound for the Rams going seven innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. 

  • Hart finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI, while Robichaud finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Boyle also finished the opener with a pair of hits 

Game 1: Fitchburg 14, Framingham 5 

  • The Falcons jumped out to an 8-0 lead after scoring two runs in the first, four in the second and two more in the fourth. 

  • The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Ryan Plocker. 

  • The Falcons added four more in the top of the fifth, but the Rams added another run on a Lucas Basile RBI double in the bottom of the inning. 

  • The Falcons capped their scoring with two runs in the top of the sixth. 

  • The Rams added three final runs in the bottom of the seventh. Daniel Demirjian plated the first run with a single to right. Basile added an RBI fielder's choice and Boyle doubled in the final run.  

  • Boyle finished game two 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Basile finished the game 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.
