Gilleran Selected MASCAC Baseball Rookie of the Year, Callahan Tabbed as Coach of the Year as Baseball Lands Five on All-MASCAC Teams

Framingham, Mass. – Freshman pitcher James Gilleran (Mansfield, Mass.) has been selected the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Rookie of the Year, and head coach Sean Callahan has been named the BSN Sports Coach of the Year as the Rams landed five players on the 2023 MASCAC Baseball All-Conference Teams.  

Junior outfielder Ryan Boyle (Arlington, Mass.) and freshman designated hitter Caleb Hendrix (Gorham, ME) have been voted to the first team and sophomore shortstop Steven Burbank (Canton, Mass.), senior reliver/closer Anthony Panza (Watertown, Mass.) and senior utility player Robert Johnston (Watertown, Conn.) have been voted on the second team. 

Callahan earned coach of the year honors after leading the Rams to the first MASCAC Regular Season Title in program history. The Rams went 15-6 in league play and earned the top seed in the MASCAC Tournament for the first time in program history. The Rams finished the season 26-15 overall. 

Gilleran earned rookie of the year honors after going 6-2 in 10 starts for the Rams with two complete games, 67 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA. Gilleran ranked third in the MASCAC in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched (60.2). 

Boyle repeats as an All-MASCAC selection after hitting .384 on the year with 53 hits on the year and a .652 slugging percentage. Boyle recorded 10 doubles and nine home runs with 52 RBI and added a .983 fielding percentage. 

Hendrix earned All-MASCAC honors after batting .364 during his rookie season. Hendrix recorded 39 hits including nine doubles, two home runs and 19 RBI. 

Burbank earns all-conference honors for the first time in his career after leading the Rams at the plate with a .404 average. Burbank recorded 59 hits on the year including 12 doubles and two triples with 28 RBI. 

Panza earned All-MASCAC honors for the first time in his career after going 4-2 with eight saves in 20 appearances on the mound. Panza eight saves ranked second in the MASCAC as he compiled a 1.57 ERA in 34.1 innings of work. 

Johnston earned his first all-conference honor after seeing the majority of his time in right field and at first base this season. Johnston batted .294 with 37 hits including four doubles and 31 RBI. Johnston committed just seven errors in 189 chances for a .963 fielding percentage.
