Mass. Maritime Sweeps MASCAC Doubleheader with Baseball

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated twice by Massachusetts Maritime Academy by scores of 2-0 and 6-2 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Bowditch Field. 

THE BASICS: 

- Scores: Mass. Maritime 2, Framingham State 0 – Mass. Maritime 6, Framingham State 2 

- Records: Framingham State (4-11, 1-2 MASCAC), Mass. Maritime (9-9, 2-1 MASCAC) 

- Location: Framingham, Mass. - Bowditch Field 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

Game 1: Mass. Maritime 2, Framingham State 0 

  • In the opener, but Bucs got on the board first in the top of the third on an RBI ground out off the bat off Alex Schlapak.  

  • Mass. Maritime doubled their lead on an RBI single from Aidan Henderson in the top of the sixth. 

  • The Rams threatened in the bottom of the sixth loading the bases with one out on a hit batter and singles from Ethan Moniz and Kennedy Wilson. Brodey Tinkham was able to work out of the inning with a double play ball for the Bucs and preserve the 2-0 lead. 

  • Steven Burbank led off the bottom of the seventh with a single for the Rams, but Brenden Biardi was able to retire the next three batters and earn the save. 

  • Anthony Panza took the loss for the Rams on the mound. Panza went seven innings allowing two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts. 

  • Tinkham earned the win for Bucs going six shutout innings allowing just five hits with three strikeouts. Biardi earned the save tossing a scoreless seventh allowing one hit. 

Game 2: Mass Maritime 6, Framingham State 2 

  • In game two, the Bucs grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout from Henderson. 

  • Ryan Boyle tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to right field for the Rams. 

  • The Bucs tacked on two more in the top of the fifth to lead 3-1. Schlapak plated the first run with a single to right and Zach Sylvia plated the second with a single. 

  • Mass. Maritime capped their scoring with three more in the top of the sixth including an RBI single from John Tropea. 

  • The Rams added a run in the bottom of the seventh when Jacob Buontempo scored on a Buc error to reach the final score. 

  • Hunter Dean earned the win for the Bucs going seven innings allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits with three strikeouts. 

  • Jack Foley took the loss for the Rams going five innings and allowing three runs, four earned, on four hits.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Curry, while the Bus face off with Wentworth on Wednesday.
