Baseball Defeats Salem State 9-5 to Advance to MASCAC Tournament Championship Round

Westfield, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 9-5 victory over Salem State University this afternoon in an elimination game of the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Championship.

With the victory, the Rams improve to 20-18 on the season and advance to the championship round of the tournament where they will face Westfield State this evening.

Senior Mike Andrews (Stoneham, Mass.) earned his second victory of the tournament going the distance and allowing five runs, four earned, on 11 hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Salem State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Rams came back and tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by senior Cameron Borrelli (Peabody, Mass.).

The Rams extended their lead to 5-1 with four in the second.  Junior Joe Ambrosino (Bradeton, Fla.) plated the first with an RBI single and junior Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.) added an RBI single to right.  Borrelli plated a run with a triple and scored on a ground out by senior Kyle Pileski (Bristol, Conn.).

Two more in the fourth on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Pileski pushed the lead to 7-1.  The Vikings got two back in the top of the fifth on RBI singles by Mac Daniel Singleton and Alex Toomey, but the Rams came back with two more in the bottom of the frame.  Ambrosino plated the first with a sacrifice fly and junior Kyle Lippert (Carlsbad, Calif.) scored on a throwing error.

The Vikings added two in the sixth to reach the final margin.
