Baseball Third Seed in 2018 MASCAC Baseball Tournament

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team has earned the third seed in the week's Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament.

The Rams are currently 17-16 on the season with one regular season game remaining and finished with an 8-6 mark in the MASCAC.  The Rams finished tied with Salem State, who was also 8-6 in the league, and by virtue of the conference tiebreaker policy earn the third seed.

The third seed Rams will host sixth seed MCLA on Thursday night at Bowditch Field at 7 p.m. in an opening round game.  The winner advances to the double elimination portion of the tournament and will face second seed Massachusetts Maritime on Friday at 3 p.m. in Buzzards Bay.

The Rams are led on the mound this season by senior Mike Andrews (Stoneham, Mass.) who has a 5-3 record including going 4-2 in league games. Andrews has pitched 67 innings with an ERA of 2.82 and 46 strikeouts.

The Rams are led offensively by junior outfielder Aaron Williams (Brockton, Mass.). Williams is hitting .390 with six doubles, 21 RBI and has 24 stolen bases while only being caught twice.  Sophomore Anthony Venuti (Braintree, Mass.) is hitting .310 with four doubles, three homers and 20 RBI.

The tournament field is rounded out by fourth seed Salem State that hosts fifth seed Fitchburg State in the other opening round game on Thursday. The winner of that game advances to the double elimination portion of the tournament and faces top seed Westfield State on Friday at Westfield.

Westfield State hosts the remainder of the tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The winner of the MASCAC baseball tournament receives the MASCAC's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
