Baseball Walks Off with 7-6 Victory over Lesley

Framingham, Mass. – Senior Ryan Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Framingham State University baseball team walked off with a 7-6 victory over Lesley University in non-conference action this evening Bowditch Field.

With the win, the Rams are now 17-22 on the year, while Lesley slips to 18-17-1.

Wardwell finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI, while senior Manny Powers (Malden, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI. Sophomore Kyle Lippert (Carlsbad, Calif.) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk, while junior Matt Brockett (Guilford, Conn.) also recorded three hits with a pair of runs scored.

The Lynx were led by sophomore Jacob Cervantes who went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while Steven DePalma went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.  Ryan Pumphret also picked up two hits with a pair of walks and a run scored.

The two teams traded runs in the first inning before Lesley plated four in the top of the second to take a 5-1 lead.  The Rams got a run back in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Joe Ambrosino (Bradeton, Fla.).  The Rams added two more in the bottom of the third including a sacrifice fly from sophomore Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.) to cut the deficit to one, 5-4..

Lesley capitalized on a Framingham error to push the lead back to 6-4 in the top of the sixth, but two in the bottom of the seventh for the Rams tied the game at 6-6.  Wardwell plated the first run of the inning on a single and Powers followed with a sacrifice fly.

Sophomore Anthony Morrissey (Beverly, Mass.) tossed a scoreless eighth and retired Lesley in order in the ninth giving the Rams a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth.  Lippert led off the inning with a single and stole second.  After an out, Brockett reached on an infield single and Wardwell followed with a base hit to right scoring Lippert from second for the win.

The Rams are back in action on tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Fitchburg State for an opening round game of the MASCAC Baseball Tournament at 3 p.m.
