Baseball Receives Sixth Seed in 2017 MASCAC Baseball Tournament

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team has earned the sixth seed in this week's Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament.     

The Rams are currently 16-21 on the year with two regular season games remaining and finished the conference slate at 6-8.  The Rams swept a MASCAC doubleheader with Bridgewater State on Saturday to grab the last spot in the conference tournament.

The sixth seeded Rams travel to third seed Fitchburg State University on Thursday, May 4th for an opening round game.  The winner advances to the double elimination portion of the tournament and will face second seed Salem State University on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Salem.

The Rams are led offensively by senior Ryan Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) who is hitting .343 with eight doubles, a triple, two homeruns and 25 RBI, while classmate Manny Powers (Malden, Mass.) is hitting .295 with 11 doubles, a triple, five homeruns and 32 RBI.

The Rams are led on the mound by sophomore Kevin Connelly (Bolton, Mass.) who has a 5-1 record on the year and has tossed four complete games.  Connelly has allowed just 10 earned runs in 53 innings of work for a 1.70 ERA.

The tournament field is rounded out by fourth seed Worcester State that hosts fifth seed MCLA in the other opening round game on Thursday. The winner of that game advances to the double elimination portion of the tournament and faces top seed Westfield State on Friday at Westfield. 

Westfield State will hosts the remainder of the tournament on Saturday and Sunday.  The winner of the MASCAC baseball tournament receives the MASCAC's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
