Johnson & Wales Comes From Behind to Defeat Baseball 10-9

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team surrendered three runs in the top of the eighth inning as Johnson & Wales University came from behind  to record a 10-9 victory in non-conference action this afternoon Bowditch Field.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 20-17 on the year, while the Rams are now 16-21 on the season.

The Rams jumped out to a 6-1 lead after one inning.  Freshman Andrew Curtis (Dracut, Mass.) crossed the plate first on the back end of double steal.  The Rams loaded the bases and senior Manny Powers (Malden, Mass.) cleared the bases with a double and classmate Ryan Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) followed with an RBI groundout.

The Wildcats plated two runs in the top of the second and two in the top of the third to begin chipping away at the deficit.  Joe Maracic singled in two runs and Greg Joubert hit a two run homerun.

The Rams added a single run in the bottom of the second and tow in the sixth to take a 9-7 lead.  The Wildcats took advantage of three walks in the top of the eighth to take their first lead of the day.

Curtis finished the day 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI while stealing four bases.  Powers finished the game with two runs scored and three RBI, while Wardwell drove in a pair of runs.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Trinity for a non-conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
