Baseball Earns Sixth Seed in MASCAC Baseball Championship

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team has earned the sixth seed and the Salem State Vikings will be the top seed in this week's 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Tournament.

The sixth seeded Rams will travel to third seed Fitchburg State University on Thursday, May 5th, for an opening round game at 3 p.m.  The winner will advance to the double elimination portion of the tournament and face second seed Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Friday.

  Fourth seed Westfield State University will host fifth seed Bridgewater State on Thursday in the other opening round game with the winner advancing to face top seed Salem State on Friday.  The tournament will conclude on Saturday and Sunday at Salem State with the tournament's winner receiving the MASCAC's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

The Rams finished the year 5-9 in the MASCAC behind senior pitcher Zack Kirby (Rochester, Mass.) who led the conference in strikeouts (69), innings pitched (54.1) and strikeouts per game (11.43). The Rams were led at the plate by junior Manny Powers (Malden, Mass.) who hit .324 with five doubles, four homeruns and 16 RBI, while senior Jon Chapman (Waltham, Mass.) led the Rams with seven homeruns.
