Baseball Holds on for 5-3 Victory over Fisher

Lynn, Mass. – The Framingham State University baseball team erupted for four runs in the fifth inning as the Rams defeated Fisher College 5-3 this evening in non-conference action at Fraser Field.

With the win, the Rams improve to 15-9 on the year, while the loss drops the Falcons to 15-12 on the season.

Junior Jake Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) scored the first after an error by the Falcons catcher on a double steal attempt.  Senior Matt Gerard (Milford, Mass.) followed with a two run homerun and classmate Billy Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass.) plated the final run with an RBI double to left.

Derosier extended the Rams lead in the top of the seventh inning with a single that plated senior Kevin Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.).

Fisher got on the board in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly and then tallied two in the bottom of the eighth.

Junior Chris Monroe (Ayer, Mass.) earned the victory for the Rams going seven innings and allowing one earned run on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts.  Freshman Chris Riga (Westfield, Mass.) earned the save tossing a scoreless ninth inning.

The Rams are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Salem State for a MASCAC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
