Baseball Salvages Split with Offensive Outburst at Westfield

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Framingham State and Westfield State split a MASCAC baseball doubleheader at Bud and Jim Hagan Field on Saturday, with Westfield claiming a 7-3 win in the opener, while Framingham posted a 12-3 win in the night cap.

In the opener. Westfield grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Danny DiMatteo and Connor Sheridan.

Later the Owls received RBI doubles from Tim Santilli and Dan McCormack to help stretch the lead.

Justin Thomson started and went six innings for the Owls, allowing nine hits and was charged with all three runs.

Matt Gerard (Milford, Mass.) and Ivan Colon (Waltham, Mass.) each hit solo homers for the Rams. Sophomore Mike Andrews (Stoneham, Mass) started and took the loss for Framingham State.

In the second game, Framingham (14-8) jumped out to an early lead on a 2-run home run from Billy Derosier (Shewsbury, Mass.) in the first inning. An inning later the Rams got another 2-run shot this time from designated hitter Jordan Pallazola (Rockport, Mass.).

Derosier finished 4-4 with three RBI, while Mark Manini also collected four hits and scored three runs for the Rams.

Zack Kirby (Rochester, Mass.) started and threw six strong innings for the Rams while striking out eight.

Santilli and Pat McWilliams each doubled for Westfield State (12-4), who were limited to six hits in the nightcap.

The Rams return to the diamond Sunday when they play #21 Southern Maine at the New England Baseball Complex at 4:00 p.m.
