Colon Homers Twice as Baseball Defeats Lesley

Northboro, Mass. – Senior infielder Ivan Colon (Waltham, Mass.) hit two homeruns to lead the Framingham State University baseball team to a 19-0 victory over Lesley University in non-conference action this evening at the New England Baseball Complex in Northboro.   

With the win, the Rams improve to 8-5 on the year, while the loss drops the Lynx to 4-9 on the season.

The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the second on a two RBI single to right field off the bat of senior Matt Gerard (Milford, Mass.).

Framingham State tacked on eight runs in the bottom of the third including a solo homerun and a three run shot from Colon.  Senior Mark Mainini (Hull, Mass.) also plated a pair in the inning with a two RBI single.

The Rams capped the scoring with nine runs in the seventh including a three RBI double from freshman Chris Riga (Westfield, Mass.).

Junior Dillon Corliss (Winterport, ME) earned the victory in the circle going five innings and allowing no runs on two hits with three walks and six strikeouts.  Jeff Heinz suffered the loss for the Lynx going two and two thirds and allowing 10 runs, four earned, on seven hits with six walks and a strikeout.

Colon finished the game 4-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored, while Mainini picked up a pair of hits and drove in three.  Junior R.J. Gray (Lowell, Mass.) also chipped in a pair of hits with an RBI and three runs scored.

The Rams are scheduled to be back in action on Saturday when they open league play with a pair of games at Fitchburg State, while the Lynx host Daniel Webster tomorrow night at the NEBC at 7 p.m.
